Policies & Procedures Manual

The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) is an independent office of the House of Assembly. The OIPC is responsible for protecting and upholding access to information and protection of privacy rights under the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPPA) and the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA). The OIPC investigates and mediates complaints, and makes recommendations to government departments and other public bodies.

Our policies flow from the following value statements.

Independence OIPC staff will conduct investigations independent of any influence.
Integrity OIPC staff will provide accurate, unbiased advice and recommendations.
Confidentiality OIPC staff will adhere to a standard of absolute confidentiality.
Judgment OIPC staff will use their professional knowledge and judgment in interpreting policies, practices and procedures to help ensure compliance with the ATIPPA and the PHIA.
Respect OIPC staff will listen to and consider the ideas and opinions of others, and work collaboratively to achieve results.
